Chiefs won Asia Pacific region qualifiers to WCA 2017
Australian team Chiefs e-Sports Club got the first place on the closed qualifiers to WCA 2017 among the teams of Asia Pacific region. For their achievements, Chiefs received a reward of $22,000 and a slot in the final stage of the tournament. Closed qualifiers among the teams of Asia Pacific region took place in online format on July 24. In the qualifier, 9 teams participated, each of them playing in the group stage according to round robin system with matches best of 1 format. In the result of the group stage, 4 teams moved to play-off (TheMongolz, Signature Trust, B.O.O.T-d[S]and Chiefs e-Sports Club), where the winner was determined and was rewarded with $22,000 and a slot in the final stage of the event. It should be mentioned that Chiefs demonstrated the best performance in the group stage and ended the qualifiers with 7-1 statistics. Both finalists (Chiefs and B.O.O.T-d[S]) received their slots in the final stage of the tournament, but their money prizes are different. B.O.O.T-d[S]were rewarded with only $11,000 for the second place, while Chiefs were rewarded with the twice bigger prize. TheMongolz were rewarded with a consolation prize of $4,400, but they did not get a place in the final stage of World Cyber Arena 2017. The two grand final teams will split the majority of the $37,400 prize pool and will be traveling to the final WCA 2017 LAN, while TheMongolz, who finished third, have earned $4,400.
