Is Cache Finally Coming Back? Valve Teases Map Pool Update for CS2
It looks like Counter-Strike fans are in for a massive treat. The official CS account on X (Twitter) recently dropped a cryptic post asking, "What are you doing next week?" To make things even more exciting, the post included a highlight reel of iconic plays—all of which took place on the legendary map Cache.
As a reminder, Cache was removed from the Active Duty map pool back in March 2019, when it was replaced by Vertigo. Since then, the map’s creator, FMPONE, has completely rebuilt it from the ground up for the Source 2 engine, and players have been begging for its official return ever since.
What should we actually expect?
Despite the massive hype, there are a few important things to keep in mind:
Matchmaking Only: Most likely, the map will only be added to standard Matchmaking and Premier mode for now.
No Changes for Pros (Yet): It’s unlikely that Cache will jump straight into the professional tournament pool. With the prestigious IEM Cologne coming up this June, Valve probably won't shake up the competitive meta right before such a major event.
So, get ready to hold "mid" once again! We’re keeping our eyes peeled for the official update early next week.
