Lucky Escape: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Player Survives Thanks to Execution Fail
A Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 player survived a challenging encounter thanks to an incredible stroke of luck involving one of the game's many finishing moves. Although finishing moves and executions are well-known aspects of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, their use comes with inherent risks.
Live-service competitive games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 often sell cosmetic items such as skins and accessories to cater to players' desire to stand out, express themselves, or show their love for crossover franchises like the Mobile Suit Gundam anime. Finishing moves are another monetization aspect, allowing players to defeat their enemies in elaborate and amusing ways under certain circumstances.
However, these finishing moves aren't always foolproof. Reddit user Quantum-Buckaroo captured a particularly amusing incident during a match, where an attempted execution led to the executing player taking an unexpected fall. The video was shared with the community, adding to the list of all-time Call of Duty execution fails.
Execution Fail Leads to a Lucky Save
The clip shows Quantum-Buckaroo briefly going prone before an open skylight in the roof of a building, only to be interrupted by another player dressed in a white Ghost skin attempting an execution. Fortunately for Quantum-Buckaroo, the finisher animation involved the executing player casually shooting their victim while walking past. This walking sequence took the executing player over the skylight, causing the animation to interrupt and dropping them to the floor below. Quantum-Buckaroo quickly capitalized on the situation, aiming at their would-be killer and defeating them. This incident spared them from an embarrassing death, as a finishing move is one of the more humiliating ways to be killed in Call of Duty.
Fellow players reacted with amusement at the entertaining save, noting Quantum-Buckaroo's luck in avoiding a death caused by their own lack of situational awareness. The brief pause as the finisher animation cut out and dropped the executing player brought to mind scenes from classic Looney Tunes TV shows. Some even suggested editing the clip to add cartoon sound effects.
A few players felt empathy for Quantum-Buckaroo's attempted executioner, saying that if they experienced such an embarrassing death, they'd immediately leave and take a break from Call of Duty to recover from the shame. Others expressed relief that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 allows for execution animations to be interrupted in this way, as cutting them off and allowing accidental deaths is much more amusing than "locking" executions away from outside interference.
