Minecraft Live 2023
SUMMARY:
Block by Block: Minecraft Live Unveils Exciting Updates, Star Wars Integration, and More!

Minecraft Live has once again taken us on a thrilling ride down the minecart tracks! If you missed their live show that aired on Sunday, October 15 at 5 pm UTC, don't worry; I'm here to give you a quick recap of all the latest news, feature reveals, the mob vote winner, and some chicken-related incidents in a non-visual format. After all, why watch when you can read! But if you prefer watching, you can catch the video on demand – just don't tell us writers; it upsets us=(

Key 1.21 Features Revealed

 1

Minecraft Live always brings surprises, and this year was no different. Game director Agnes Larsson and a team of Minecraft developers unveiled some of the key features coming to Minecraft as part of next year's update. Although the update doesn't have an official name yet, I'll refer to it as "1.21" for now, even though it's set to arrive in the middle of 2024. Yay, numbers!

Agnes and level designer Matthew "Moesh" Dryden took us on a tour of one of the new structures in development – the trial chamber. This sprawling structure is filled with corridors, traps, trial spawners, mobs, loot, and more. The trial chamber is procedurally generated, offering a fresh challenge every time you enter. Thanks to the trial spawner, the difficulty adapts based on the number of adventurers in your party.

Agnes, game designer Cory Scheviak, and game developer Magnus Puig De La Bellacasa introduced a playful but perilous new mob – the breeze. This hostile mob enjoys darting around its opponents in dizzying circles and attacking with the power of wind. They also showcased new decorative tuff and copper blocks, as well as copper bulbs that can be toggled using redstone pulses. And let's not forget the crafters, which utilize redstone for automated crafting – because who can resist more hanging signs?

Minecraft Legends Gets an Update

 2

Minecraft Legends has allowed us to team up with creepers, save the Overworld, and, most importantly for many, pet llamas. But the adventure isn't over. Principal design director Craig Leigh joined at Minecraft Live to discuss the progress and upcoming features in Minecraft Legends.

In the first major update released in August, significant changes and additions were made, including custom campaigns, PvP, world waypoints, an enhanced Banner View, improved pathfinding, and, of course, petting animals. Heroes also had the opportunity to test their skills in the Lost Legends, a series of free challenges released monthly.

Craig unveiled exciting features in Minecraft Legends' second major update, its most substantial one yet. Heroes will now be able to ride into battle on a fearless frog, a mount that can swim faster and jump higher than any other steed. New allies in the form of mysterious witches will assist heroes in using their potions against the piglins. And speaking of piglins, the pesky piglets have some surprises, including the clanger, a loud and elongated piglin, and the air chopper, a slicing piglin structure that repels units with gusts of spore-filled air. It's as fun (and gross) as it sounds!

Star Wars Returns to Minecraft

 3

During the show, Vu Bui received a visit from none other than R2D2, hinting at an opportunity for us to join the Jedi ranks. The Star Wars: Path of the Jedi DLC is set to arrive on Minecraft Marketplace on November 7. This DLC takes place during the Clone Wars and allows players to train with Grand Master Yoda, Mace Windu, and other Jedi as young Padawans. Rise to the rank of Jedi Knight, embark on missions to distant biomes, battle galactic monsters, explore uncharted planets, and perhaps even confront the dark side – the specifics are reserved for Jedi Knights who've mastered their lightsabers.

As if that isn't exciting enough, every player gets their own customizable lightsaber and droid companion. It's safe to say we'll be spending countless hours creating our droid buddy and trying on new Jedi robes.

Join the LEGO Minecraft Block & Brick Challenge

 4

Minecraft Live introduced the Block & Brick Challenge in collaboration with LEGO. Minecraft Creator @hannahxxrose and LEGO Master Model Builder Tristan Cain were tasked with building their ultimate Minecraft hideaway from the same prompts using digital blocks and physical LEGO bricks. After 80 hours, 30,340 LEGO bricks, and numerous clever Minecraft tricks, their seasonal builds were completed. You can watch the video to see the results and compare how similar or different their hideouts turned out.

You can create your Block & Brick challenges with your friends and continue building in real life with the LEGO Minecraft Pumpkin Farm. If you're in New York City, you can also see Tristan Cain's four-foot LEGO structure in person at the LEGO Store Fifth Avenue from October 16 to 31.

Planet Earth III DLC

 5

Minecraft Live also revealed that BBC Studios and Minecraft Education are teaming up again to bring Earth's most intriguing corners and creatures into a blocky, explorable format. Planet Earth III, created by BBC Earth, is set to appear on screens next year, followed by a new DLC coming to both Minecraft Education and Minecraft Marketplace. This DLC will allow players to explore some of the planet's most extreme biomes, meet main characters from the show, and dive deeper into the stories of Planet Earth III.

Mob Vote Winner

 6

Congratulations to the armadillo for winning the mob vote and becoming the next mob to join Minecraft permanently! Armadillos inhabit the savannah biome and curl up into a blocky ball when startled. They also drop a scute that can be used to craft a new type of armor – wolf armor, offering extra protection for your pet wolf.

While the mob vote has ended, the event server remains open for the next 24 hours. This gives you an additional day to enjoy mob-themed mini-games, meet the hosts of Minecraft Live, partake in some parkour, and complete a scavenger hunt.

Minecraft Turns 15!

Minecraft Live served as a reminder that Minecraft is celebrating its 15th birthday next year. We've crafted pickaxes, discovered diamonds, and slain countless skeletons. It's a remarkable journey we've undertaken together!

Mojang Studios, the creative force behind the beloved sandbox game Minecraft, has officially announced the return of Minecraft Live on October 15, 2023. This exciting news was shared with fans through an endearing teaser trailer, and enthusiasts can rejoice as the much-anticipated Minecraft community activity, the mob vote, is making a comeback in this year's event.

The resurgence of Minecraft Live has likely been eagerly awaited by numerous fans. In the previous year, Minecraft's 1.20 update introduced a plethora of new features, including the camel mob, bamboo-based crafting materials, and craftable items such as hanging signs and chiseled bookshelves. Additionally, fans had the opportunity to vote for a new mob to be integrated into the game, with the Sniffer emerging as the fan-favorite choice. Now, this community activity is making a triumphant return, leaving players undoubtedly thrilled to discover the options Minecraft will present this year.

In the announcement of Minecraft Live's return in 2023, Mojang Studios unveiled an adorable trailer video, marking the event for October 15, 2023, at 1:00 PM EDT. Though the trailer is a mere two minutes in length, it artfully showcased many of the sandbox title's gameplay elements and features. Furthermore, it confirmed the highly-anticipated return of Minecraft's fan-favorite mob vote, allowing fans to cast their votes through multiple channels, including the live event server, the website, or the game's launcher. The teaser also hinted at forthcoming news and updates about the game, promising an exciting Minecraft Live 2023.

Regrettably, Minecraft has yet to divulge any specifics about the three mobs that fans will have the privilege of selecting during the mob vote. The team has also outlined the voting timeframe, commencing on October 13, 2023, at 1:00 PM EDT and concluding on October 15, 2023, at 1:15 PM EDT. This generous window of time grants fans nearly three days to make their decision regarding the next addition to Minecraft's diverse array of creatures. With hopes of intriguing choices and an enjoyable experience, players eagerly await the event, regardless of the final outcome.

If Minecraft Live 2023 lives up to the excitement of its predecessor, Minecraft Live 2022, and offers a similar abundance of content, fans have a wealth of thrilling prospects to anticipate.
