BGMI's Latest 2.8 Update Introduces Zombie-Themed 'Zombie's Edge' Game Mode
Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) has rolled out its highly anticipated 2.8 update, featuring an exciting zombie-themed game mode known as 'Zombie's Edge'. The update is readily available for free download on both Android and iOS platforms, and it unlocks the new mode on popular maps like Erangel, Livik, and Miramar. In this mode, players will find the Aerolith Lab and its vicinity swarming with various types of 'mutants' to confront, including the formidable Berserker and agile Ripper variants, adding an extra layer of challenge. The Berserker is a muscular adversary capable of transforming its right arm into either a sharp blade or an armored fist. In contrast, the Ripper is more slender and relies on its agility to execute slashing attacks.
It's worth noting that Zombie's Edge is the same game mode that was introduced in the international version of PUBG Mobile last month. While the exact changes made to the India-exclusive BGMI version are unclear, the patch notes suggest that they are identical. The 2.8 update also introduces Mutation Gauntlets, offering players the opportunity to significantly enhance their gameplay. These gauntlets feature a powerful slam attack that can eliminate zombies in a single blow, as well as a Great Smash moveset similar to Doomfist's ultimate ability in Overwatch 2. When activated, players leap into the air to select a landing point, then unleash a devastating area-of-effect attack. Additionally, a Ripper version of the gauntlet is available, granting a dash move and the ability to perform slashing attacks.
All of these elements are intertwined with the central theme of the infection, the Aerolith Lab, which can be described as a living, towering organism absorbing the undead to grow stronger. Once this process is complete, it spawns a fearsome 'Rage' Berserker, a formidable mutant that, when defeated, rewards players with a wealth of loot. The update also introduces the Maglev Hoverboard, allowing for swift traversal across both land and water, and a 'Halloweeks' update that transforms the environment with carved pumpkins, disco lights, and dancing mutants.
For those unfamiliar with BGMI, it emerged on the scene following the Indian government's ban on the widely popular PUBG Mobile due to privacy and security concerns. BGMI was only recently unbanned in May after a ten-month hiatus, with developer Krafton implementing measures such as playtime restrictions and parental verification for in-game purchases. The relaunch also introduced the Nusa map, a tropical area featuring ziplines and a Super Recall feature to revive fallen teammates. BGMI received a three-month 'trial approval' from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) at that time, although the status of the ban remains uncertain.
