Overwatch 2 Confirms Jade Weapons Will Remain in Season 15

Overwatch 2 has officially confirmed that Jade Weapons will continue to be available in Season 15. Originally, Blizzard planned to permanently retire these Competitive Play weapon cosmetics with the upcoming update, but after receiving significant fan feedback, the decision was reversed.

The History of Jade Weapons in Overwatch 2

Jade Weapons were introduced last year as the first new type of Weapon Variant in Overwatch 2. Functioning as an evolution of the classic Golden Weapons from the original game, these cosmetics could be acquired using 3,000 Competitive Points, earned through Competitive Play. However, a recent Overwatch 2 Director’s Take announced that Jade Weapons would no longer be obtainable once Season 15 launched on February 18.

Blizzard Reverses Its Decision

Following widespread community backlash, Blizzard decided to keep Jade Weapons in the game. Shortly after the initial announcement, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller took to Twitter to confirm that these weapon variants would not be removed. Blizzard originally intended for Jade Weapons to be exclusive rewards for the Competitive year, but player concerns about their removal led to a change in plans.

Jade Weapons Will Be Available Beyond Season 15

When Season 15 arrives, players should still be able to purchase Jade Weapons using Legacy and Competitive Points. However, Keller acknowledged that the decision to retain them was made late in development, meaning they might not be available at launch. If that happens, Blizzard expects Jade Weapons to return no later than the mid-Season 15 patch, likely in mid-to-late March.

Future of Jade Weapons and New Competitive Variants

At this time, it is unclear whether future Overwatch 2 heroes will receive Jade Weapons. When asked about the possibility, Keller admitted that Blizzard had not considered this implication before deciding to keep them. While Golden Weapons have been made available for every hero introduced in Overwatch 2, it remains to be seen if Blizzard will follow the same approach with Jade Weapons or any future replacements.

Meanwhile, Season 15 will introduce a brand-new Competitive Weapon Variant, which remains a mystery. According to Keller, this new variant will feature a “higher-end look,” describing it as “pretty spectacular” and “out of this world.” These hints suggest that the upcoming cosmetics may go beyond simple metallic recolors, possibly incorporating a cosmic or celestial theme. More details about this new Weapon Variant will likely be revealed during Overwatch 2’s upcoming Spotlight event on February 12.
