Overwatch 2's Tank Mauga Set for Buff as Blizzard Aims to Boost Survivability: What to Expect in Season 8!
Blizzard has officially announced plans to enhance the survivability of Mauga, the upcoming Tank hero in Overwatch 2. The confirmation follows Mauga's recent debut at BlizzCon 2023, where players had the opportunity to test the hero during a weekend trial. Set to be introduced with the launch of Season 8 in December, Mauga, equipped with dual chainguns, introduces a unique playstyle, utilizing an incendiary chaingun to ignite targets and dealing critical damage to those on fire. His toolkit includes a range of abilities such as Berserker, Overrun, Cardiac Overdrive, and the ultimate move, Cage Fight.
Concerns regarding Mauga's ability to survive in the game surfaced during the trial period, prompting Overwatch 2 Lead Hero Designer Alec Dawson to reveal the team's intention to buff Mauga's survivability before Season 8's release. Feedback from players highlighted Mauga's dependency on support and his vulnerability when left unsupported. Although Cardiac Overdrive aids in emergency situations, providing temporary survival through dealing damage, Mauga lacks robust mitigation tools, making his escape move, Overrun, somewhat cumbersome.
Dawson did not specify the exact nature of the buff, leaving room for potential adjustments to Mauga's health pool, self-healing capabilities with Cardiac Overdrive, or enhancements to the Berserker passive, which could amplify healing when dealing critical damage to burning targets.
Alec Dawson acknowledged the insights gained from the trial period, emphasizing the ongoing efforts to fine-tune Mauga's survivability metrics. As Overwatch 2 Season 7 concludes, players eagerly anticipate Season 8, hoping that Mauga will exhibit a more balanced reliance on support within the game's dynamic landscape.
