Sony decided not to close stores PS3 and PS Vita

Sony reversed its decision to close PS3 and PS Vita stores following backlash from the player community. The company has decided to go to meet the players who inundated it with negative reviews, as well as indie developers who will continue to release their games on these consoles.

The decision to discontinue purchase features on PS3 and PS Vita was driven by a number of factors - there are many challenges to maintaining commercial functionality on older devices, and we felt it would be wiser to focus our resources on the newer devices that the majority of gamers play on. We've noticed that many of you would like to continue buying classic PS3 and PS Vita games in the near future, so I'm glad we were able to find a solution that will allow us to continue to support the purchase functionality.

Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO Jim Ryan explained that they will now keep stores open on PS3 and PS Vita consoles. However, the remaining functionality of the PSP store will still end on July 2, 2021.

While it's good to see Sony listening to PlayStation fans, it could dampen hopes that the company is working on an alternative way to access games from past generations of PlayStation - the news indicates that the company is looking to close the store with no alternative in the future.
