Hugo Awards to be awarded to video games for the first time

The gaming industry is developing every year, outgrowing itself and going beyond the generally accepted framework. Games are not just a way of leisure or an opportunity to kill time, but a full-fledged art that gains recognition in various fields. An example of such recognition is the decision of the organizers of the famous Hugo Awards this year to include the nomination "Best Video Game of the Year".

“Since the early 2020s, many of us have been spending more time playing games than ever expected. This award will give video game fans the opportunity to celebrate exceptional and meaningful projects that have brought much joy over the past year. "

This is the first time a video game will receive a Hugo this year, but the award committee does not rule out the possibility of adding a permanent Game of the Year nomination. The first ever Hugo Gaming Awards will be presented from 25 to 29 August 2021 as part of the 79th World Science Fiction Convention DisCon III.
