September 30 ended the first quarter of the current fiscal year for Microsoft. The other day the company reported to its investors about the success and failure of this period.
Basically, the report focused on the gaming segment. Here's what Microsoft did in the first fiscal quarter of 2021:
- The gaming segment's revenue was $ 3.09 billion. This is 22% higher than the figure for the same period last year;
- Xbox revenue grew 30% over last year;
- Sales of consoles and Xbox accessories fell 27% year-over-year.
The growth in gaming revenue and Xbox revenue is largely driven by the company's clever policies for acquiring third-party studios, as well as the Xbox Game Pass service. The drop in sales is quite logical, since the current generation of consoles is living out its last days and the new Xbox Series will be released on November 10.
