Insider Revealed How Rockstar Games Prevented Future GTA 6 Leaks
This year, GTA 6 has seen numerous leaks, something that until recently seemed impossible. This summer, hacker Cyberleek posted the first gameplay footage of the most anticipated game in years, and each new leak showed a more up-to-date version of the project. However, Rockstar Games seems to have learned a lesson from this, with the release now fast approaching.
This week, the studio began sending copies of GTA 6 to media representatives, who will have just over three weeks to play the game and prepare their reviews, and the review embargo lifts on November 18. Meanwhile, according to insider ManaByte, the version sent to journalists and streamers has a special watermark that appears in several places at once and moves across the screen. This lets Rockstar identify the source of any leak immediately and take action.
The GTA 6 leaks really spooked Rockstar.
The review copies apparently are watermarked, with the reviewer's name flashing on the screen to prevent leaks.
This way if anyone leaks footage, Rockstar knows exactly what copy it came from and that reviewer/outlet becomes eternally blacklisted from all future Rockstar releases.
Cyberleek’s massive leak clearly wasn’t part of Rockstar’s plans, and it’s good to see the studio learning from its mistakes, especially since no further details have leaked ahead of release. The game is also the cover feature of the new Edge issue, which comes out tomorrow, October 29. In the magazine, the developers will share new details and reveal new screenshots. According to some reports, the PS5 file size of GTA 6 has also been revealed: the game will need 210 GB of free storage.
Grand Theft Auto VI launches on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
