GSC Game World Announced S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope Will Release on August 20 Alongside Massive 2.0. Update

Announced this spring, the DLC for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl, Cost of Hope, went without a release date for quite a while, though the developers had confirmed it would be available this summer. Now the cards are on the table, as the studio has announced the DLC's release date alongside confirmation of a major new update.

GSC Game World has confirmed the DLC for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2, Cost of Hope, will be launched on August 20, 2026. Alongside that, the developers released a short trailer for the expansion and announced a major update, Update 2.0, coming at the same time. It will be completely free, fixing numerous technical issues and bringing a bunch of changes, including an engine update.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Cost of Hope will open the door to the center of the Zone on August 20, 2026.

Skif will have to choose between the two beliefs of Freedom and Duty and try to discover for himself what is hidden at the center of the Zone, which until now has been closed to all stalkers.

The developers have also issued a press release for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope, confirming the expansion will feature locations never before explored in the franchise's history. You can check it out below:

As confirmed by multiple trailers, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Cost of Hope will also introduce a new heroine, Mavka, and reportedly bring back at least two familiar faces —Suslov, a scientist from S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, and General Voronin, who only appeared as a minor character in the second game. The release date is set for August 20, 2026, on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
