Jean Grey Might Be the Second Playable Character In Marvel’s Wolverine

With less than two months to go before Marvel's Wolverine launches on PlayStation 5, Insomniac Games is keeping the game’s promotional push in full swing. At San Diego Comic-Con, the studio revealed new details and released a story-focused trailer, leaving some fans convinced Logan won't be the only playable character.

As X user CabooseEK pointed out, there is a moment in the trailer where the camera lingers on Jean Grey as Logan opens the door for her, teasing she will be the second playable character. Her scenes will likely echo Mary Jane's role in the Marvel's Spider-Man games—though unlike MJ's stealth sections, which were not the most thrilling part of those titles, Jean Grey appears to actively fight alongside Logan in the trailers, which has fans a lot more excited about the prospect, as you can check out below:

Ok not sure if I'm going crazy here, but does this shot not totally confirm that Jean is gonna be playable?

Camera is locked behind her and Logan is holding the door open for her.

However, Insomniac Games had previously stated Logan is the only playable character in Marvel's Wolverine, even though a major 2023 leak suggested Jean Grey would be playable too. That's a bit of a confusion, but there are really two ways to read it: either Insomniac Games is holding its cards close, or they eventually cut this feature during the development. For now, it’s hard to say for sure, but the latest trailer and that specific scene suggest the developers haven't fully locked everything down yet.

Alongside the story trailer, Insomniac Games also released a comic book prequel to Marvel's Wolverine, written by the studio's narrative director, Walt Williams. It follows Logan, Sabretooth, Mystique, and Sunfire as they infiltrate Bolivar Trask's warehouse. The developers have also confirmed Trask Industries—the organization behind the Sentinels, founded by Bolivar himself—will serve as the game's main antagonists, though Logan and his team will also face off against villainous groups like The Hand, led by Lady Deathstrike, and The Reavers.
