New DOOM 4 Leak Reveals More Footage From the Canceled Shooter
New footage from the canceled DOOM 4 has surfaced online, giving fans the most detailed look yet at id Software's abandoned vision for the franchise before it was rebooted with DOOM (2016). The latest leak includes gameplay clips, concept art, character models, and animations that suggest the project had reached an advanced stage of development.
The newly shared materials were published by Crispies and dataminer WadOverdose. They showcase animations for possessed soldiers, enemy behavior, NPC interactions, early demon animations, and environmental concept art, expanding on previous leaks that were limited to a concept trailer and screenshots from an early build.
Fans have also identified what appear to be reused assets in DOOM: The Dark Ages – Revelations. According to the community, flashback scenes featuring Flynn Taggart include weapon models originally created for DOOM 4, while several vehicles and urban environments also resemble locations from the canceled project.
Development of DOOM 4 began in 2008, but id Software eventually scrapped the project and restarted development from scratch. That decision led to the release of DOOM (2016), which successfully reinvented the franchise and became one of the studio's biggest modern successes.
Despite recent layoffs at Microsoft-owned studios, journalist Tom Warren recently reported that id Software is already developing another DOOM game. Meanwhile, one long-standing theory about DOOM 4's cancellation continues to circulate, suggesting the project was abandoned because its military-style gameplay had become too similar to Call of Duty.
