Supercell Says Hero Journey Is Just the Beginning of Bigger Clash of Clans Changes

Supercell has responded to community criticism surrounding the Hero Journey update in Clash of Clans, confirming that the feature is only the first stage of a broader overhaul of Hero progression and the game's ore economy. The comments came from UX Designer Rafael Lima (Rafa) during the first episode of the Judo Sloth Talks 2026 interview series.

According to Rafa, internal data played a major role in shaping the feature. Around 30% of players at Town Hall 8 and above did not own a single Epic Equipment, while only 0.5% of the entire player base had fully maxed Heroes. Hero Journey was designed to help newer and returning players catch up by making Hero Equipment progression more accessible.

Rafa acknowledged that the rollout failed to meet player expectations. He admitted the team "dropped the ball" on communication, particularly regarding the migration process and the temporary reward storage system that pressured some players to claim items within 24 hours. While Supercell does not plan to reverse the Hero Journey migration, the developer says it intends to communicate major progression changes much earlier in the future.

The interview also confirmed that additional improvements to the ore economy are already in development. Although no release dates were announced, Supercell is exploring new ways for players to earn ores through gameplay, events, and more efficient progression systems without reducing the value of long-term player investment.

Rafa also suggested that Ore Chests could eventually become available through additional game modes, similar to how regular Chests expanded beyond their original implementation.

The interview offers the clearest indication yet that Hero Journey is not a standalone feature but the foundation of a wider rework of Hero progression, with more developer updates expected in the coming weeks.
