Hideo Kojima’s OD Is Safe and Won’t Be Affected by Microsoft's Massive Restructuring

Large-scale layoffs, the closure of gaming studios, and the cancellation of planned projects are, unfortunately, not something rare in the gaming industry, and they affect both small studios and large corporations. In recent weeks, a spotlight has been on Microsoft, which is expected to undergo a major restructuring of its gaming division in the near future.

On June 30, The Verge published a new report in which Tom Warren wrote that five gaming studios could be shut down soon —and Arkane Studios, which is currently working on Marvel's Blade, is a potential candidate. In addition, Bloomberg confirmed that Xbox Game Studios was supposed to be a publisher for Project Fantasy —a new online title from IO Interactive—but the developers released a statement saying that their “external partner” is no longer involved with the project.

Amid this, many gamers have begun to express concern about the upcoming horror title OD, developed by Hideo Kojima in collaboration with Xbox Game Studios. However, IGN has confirmed that OD “is safe” and will not be affected by the upcoming restructuring at Microsoft, and development of the game will continue as before.

Earlier, Entertainment Weekly interviewed Hideo Kojima, and shared new details of OD - including the new screenshot that has some vibes of the legendary game designer’s cancelled horror title, Silent Hills, showcasing some creepy corridors and a mysterious threat. Kojima also confirmed that he aims to make OD “as scary as possible,” and motion capture sessions with the actors have already begun. The confirmed cast of OD includes actors such as Sophia Lillis, Hunter Schafer, and the late Udo Kier, who was 3D-scanned before his passing in November 2025.
