Build A Rocket Boy Suffered Another Layoffs After the Release of a New DLC to MindsEye
At the end of last month, Build a Rocket Boy studio released a new expansion for their troubled project, MindsEye. It added a new story mission to the game and an update featuring various gameplay enhancements, with the developers even lowering the price. Nevertheless, it appears this didn't change anything.
According to SteamDB, at the time of the update's release, the peak player count was only... 35, and it has since dropped by half. Moreover, the latest report from Kotaku reveals that Build A Rocket Boy suffered another wave of layoffs - it is already hard to say which one it was over the last six months. It is reported that more than 170 employees have been laid off. Although there has been no official statement from the studio yet, updates on LinkedIn indicate that the following people have left Build A Rocket Boy:
- James Tyler (Technical Level Designer)
- Tom Cross (Audio Designer)
- Gary Iain Gough (QA Analyst)
- Leah Philpot (Level Designer)
At the moment, there are still 80 active employees at the studio, but given the current state of affairs, it is highly likely that the studio will be permanently closed within this year, and support for MindsEye will come to an end. Additionally, last month the French division of Build A Rocket Boy was placed into court-ordered liquidation, which further reinforces the belief that a closure is imminent.
At this time, studio representatives have not provided any comment regarding the information about the latest round of employee layoffs.
MindsEye is now available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
