Arc Raiders New Map Trailer Drops With Full Riven Tides Update Overview

Embark Studios has published a trailer and a detailed breakdown of the Riven Tides update, the next major content drop for its extraction shooter Arc Raiders. The update launches as a free patch on April 28 across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, one day after the trailer's release.

The headline addition is the Riven Tides map itself, the second new location Embark has added since the game's October 2025 launch. The map sits on the western coast of the Rust Belt and was abandoned twice, first during the Exodus and again by First Wave survivors who could not hold the settlement against ARC. Players will move through the Hotel Panorama Azzurro with its disused water slides and dining spaces, the surrounding tennis courts and harbor, and the Exodus port. Returning enemies include the Vaporizer, Hornet drones, and the Shredder.

The new enemy unveiled in the trailer is the ARC Turbine, a large cone-shaped aerial unit with strong defensive abilities. Embark has not confirmed whether it will appear outside Riven Tides. Per the Arc Raider's team blog post, the Turbine drifts across the map calmly until provoked, with a fight described as unique to this enemy class.

A new minor map condition called Beachcombing is exclusive to Riven Tides. Players can find the Dockmaster's Detector during a session and sweep it across the sand to dig up buried loot of varying rarity. The Detector occupies a weapon slot, and the densest hunting grounds sit in exposed areas. Embark also introduces two fall mitigation items, the Crash Mat and the Powered Descender, designed to make vertical traversal across the Rust Belt's high points less punishing.

The Last Resort event runs from April 28 through May 25 and converts XP earned on any map into Merits. Bonus Merits drop from miniature Ship Models hidden across the world, with rarity tied to value. Three pages of rewards include the Junior Outfit, the Hydrologist backpack, the Hose attachment, the Brass Faucet charm, new emotes, and 250 Raider Tokens in total.

The new Avian Alarm Project asks players to build a tremor and atmospheric detection system by deploying cages at buoys along the coast to catch birds. Clearing all five stages awards the Dockmaster's Detector, Gel Patches, the Bird House backpack attachment, the Fist In Air emote, and another 250 Raider Tokens.

I see the cage-the-birds-to-build-a-security-system framing as the kind of low-stakes worldbuilding Embark handles well, and it is the rare project where the gameplay loop and the in-fiction explanation fit together rather than feel stapled on.

The next Expedition window opens April 28 and uses the reworked scoring system Embark patched in earlier this year. Players now earn bonus skill points for damage dealt rather than for stash value, a change that drew complaints when first announced and was revised quickly afterwards. Sign-ups close May 11. The competitive Trials System runs on its own cadence, with Season 4 changes scheduled separately for the day after Riven Tides goes live.

Six cosmetic sets are included or planned. The Solare and Rachetta sets are available on launch day, with the Solare leaning into ceremonial layered fabrics and the Rachetta into bold athletic cuts. The Corsaro, Castaway, and Sandveil sets will roll out across May. The Corsaro adds a robotic arm and a spring-operated leg.

PS5 Pro owners receive PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, an upscaling technique Embark describes as making "environments appear cleaner and more stable, with better reconstruction of fine details."

I think the most interesting design choice here is the Avian Alarm chain delivering the Dockmaster's Detector. The project gates the headline new mechanic of the update behind a multi-stage progression rather than handing it out at launch.

Read also, Embark CEO Patrick Söderlund told GamesIndustry.biz that the studio replaced some AI-generated voice lines with real actor recordings after Arc Raiders launched on October 30, 2025. Söderlund said the studio uses fewer AI voice lines than at release and re-recorded specific dialogue with human performers, citing a clear quality gap. The studio used AI mainly for internal testing of unrecorded line variations, paid actors for all booth time, and licensed select voices through text-to-speech for non-essential dialogue, primarily ping system audio.
