CD Projekt RED Using AI Tools In Development of The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077 Sequel
CD Projekt RED is currently working on several projects, with The Witcher 4 and a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 believed to be the studio’s most ambitious titles. However, both games still don’t have release dates, but the fans are convinced it would be better for CD Projekt RED to spend more time on developing process to avoid a situation like the one that arose in 2020, when Cyberpunk 2077 was launched.
There is also a specific moment about the development of The Witcher 4 and Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel. As revealed via PC Guide, CD Projekt RED is reportedly using AI technologies while producing both games, specifically for generating “realistic crowds” of NPCs, not for game content. You can check out document content from CD Projekt RED itself, as it proves the studio is using AI tools in their projects.
“In 2025 the team responsible for Artificial Intelligence research continued investigating opportunities for employing existing AI-based tools or developing custom tools to support creation of future products – particularly in the scope of automating prototyping, testing and generating realistic crowds of non-player characters (NPCs).
Some of the ongoing initiatives progressed to testing and preliminary utilization. In parallel, the team performed a review and consolidation of research projects, which resulted in new initiatives focusing on the most promising directions of work. The AI team is currently pursuing approximately a dozen research projects.”
Neither The Witcher 4 nor Cyberpunk 2077’s sequel, which are actively under development at CD Projekt RED, has a lot of details. The fourth installment of Witcher saga will follow Ciri, who will replace Geralt of Rivia as the game series protagonist. Developers are also planning to redefine the genre of RPG with the upcoming release.
As for the new Cyberpunk title, it is believed to feature multiplayer mode, something that was cut from the original game, and also a new city inspired by Chicago. The Night City from Cyberpunk 2077 is also expected to return.
