How To Get A Ship in Windrose

On April 16, the new pirate online game, Windrose, developed by Kraken Express, was released on Steam via early access. It was actually a really anticipated and promising project, since the game had been added to wishlists more than 1.5 million times in the weeks leading up to its release. The project also started really well on Steam, with 1 million copies already having been sold, Kraken Express confirmed.

As in any pirate adventure, you’ll need your own pirate ship to sail the seas. Windrose gives players this opportunity, but to do so, you’ll need to complete certain tasks, including progressing through the game’s storyline. In this guide, you will find out how to get a ship in Windrose.

How to Get Your First Ship in Windrose

Once you complete building your character, you will be able to craft your first boat, Rowboat that will let you move across the map. You can craft a Rowboat on a Workbench using Timber and Wooden Planks. It’s your first step for building a proper pirate ship, as you will be able to transport from one island to another.

Your next step is to find Doctor Galen’s Request quest, which is vital to getting your pirate ship. After you read the Islander Tutorial and have made the first Copper Ingot, Doctor Galen appears with an urgent request - there is nothing difficult in it, as the quest tests your skills. If you successfully complete the tasks, you’ll unlock your first pirate ship—Ketch. To build Ketch, you need to use Shipwright and find elements for crafting - Wooden Planks, metal fittings, and cloth sails. Ketch is the best ship during the start of Windrose, as it offers the perfect balance of speed and resource efficiency, allowing you to move quickly across the map.

How Many Ships You Can Produce in Windrose: All Windrose Ships List

Besides Rowboat and Ketch, there are more ships you can make in Windrose as the story unfolds and you become familiar with the game's features. After you build a Shipwright, where you can craft tools for your ship and make armor, cannons, and further enhancements, you also need to build Wharf, which will let you create and restore your ships and change their appearance and modify them.

The next ship you can build in Windrose after Ketch is Brig - it's more advanced than its predecessor, as Brig is having speed, durability, and attacking possibilities. It’s also better for combat missions rather than moving across the map.

The best ship in Windrose so far is the Frigade - it’s literally a floating fortress, which is equipped with numerous powerful cannons and possesses incredible durability, capable of withstanding numerous volleys of fire and adverse weather conditions, although it can’t boast of speed and maneuverability. Of course, it’s not possible to create this ship on a standard Workbench, and you need to upgrade it to the maximum level.

How to Upgrade Ships in Windrose

Once you create ships in Windrose, you may also upgrade them to achieve the maximum level or durability level. You can upgrade all ships in Windrose, besides Rowboat, in Workshop, and the improvements apply to specific parts and components of the ship: Hull, Sails, Cannons and Cargo.

  • Upgrade the hull to increase your ship’s durability; this is recommended in the early stages if you want to survive.
  • Upgrading the sails improves speed and maneuverability on the open sea, which also affects ship handling during naval battles.
  • Cannons, of course, are worth upgrading to maximize damage from broadside fire and increase firing range.
  • Upgrading cargo capacity affects the size of your storage and is a priority for upgrading if you enjoy traveling and gathering resources.

In the early stages, it’s best to invest in your ship’s hull to ensure maximum durability and to upgrade your cannons to maximize your ship’s damage output.

Windrose is a survival co-op online game set in the open world that features naval battles, base and ship building, world exploration, and crafting. You play as a captain, create yourself in the character editor, then build your own ship, assemble a crew, and live the pirate life to the fullest.
