Mass Effect Showrunner Denied Rumors About Rewriting the Script for Non-Gamers

Earlier this month, there has been a disturbing report about the upcoming Mass Effect series adaptation, developed by Amazon. It was revealed that the new Head of Global TV at the company, Peter Friedlander, has requested to rewrite the script for Mass Effect show to make it more appealing to a non-gaming audience. The showrunner has now reacted to the report, and it looks like there is no need to worry, at least for now.

During the conversation on BlueSky social media, the showrunner of Mass Effect TV series, Daniel Casey, who is also an executive producer of the show, shared that he was never told about rewriting the script for non-gaming audience, though he can’t share any details due to signing an NDA (non-disclosure agreement). You can check out the words from Casey below:

“So, I can’t talk about the specifics of what I’m writing (I’ve signed NDAs, etc) — but for whatever it’s worth, that article by the Ankler caught me off guard just as much as you. I don’t know where that “non-gaming audiences” quote came from or who said it, but at no point has that been said to me.”

We don’t know much about the upcoming Mass Effect show, but it’s confirmed to take place after the events of game series trilogy and won’t feature its main character, Commander Shepard. The start of production, cast, and release date remain unknown for now.

As for Mass Effect game series, we know that the fifth installment is believed to be at an early stage of development, and earlier this year, Electronic Arts was looking for a director for the upcoming game.
