It’s Almost Impossible for Crimson Desert to Get Game of the Year Award

Crimson Desert, developed by Pearl Abyss and released on March 19, has received mostly positive reviews from gaming outlets, although players are not satisfied with the game so far. Before the launch, the developers teased that Crimson Desert might be the next big thing in the world of RPG video games, but it turned out to be just a decent project.

Despite the ambitions of Pearl Abyss, we can now assume that Crimson Desert is unlikely to get the Game of the Year award like its industry peer, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, did in 2015. This supposition is also confirmed by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, who recently revealed Crimson Desert had 30% of winning Game of the Year award, and now it’s having about 5%. The first place, obviously, belongs to Grand Theft Auto VI (45%).

It’s Almost Impossible for Crimson Desert to Get Game of the Year Award 1

“Earlier this month, Crimson Desert was trading at a 30% chance of winning Game of the Year on the gambling website Kalshi, second only to Grand Theft Auto VI (45%). Now it is down to 5%.

Crimson Desert was hyped breathlessly over the last few months on sites like YouTube and TikTok, where video makers described it as the Second Coming, building up froth for a game that could never live up to expectations. That's happened with games in the past. But in 2026, you can wager money on it”

Schreier also revealed he played Crimson Desert for a couple of hours and called the game "so boring and soulless" and added that he "absolutely did not want to play anymore. Feels like a game designed for people who just want to Consume Content."

After negative feedback from players, Pearl Abyss released Patch 1.00.03 for all platforms that fixes plenty of stuff. You can also read Crimson Desert Beginner Guide, where you will find out tips that make your game experience easier from the beginning of your walkthrough.
