Phil Spencer’s Departure Might Have A Huge Impact on the Future of Xbox

A few days ago, Phil Spencer announced he is stepping down as the CEO of Microsoft Gaming and leaving the company after almost 40 years of work. Sarah Bond, the president of Xbox, has also announced her departure, with Asha Sharma being confirmed as the new CEO of Microsoft Gaming. Previously she worked as the president of Microsoft’s CoreAI.

The retirement of Phil Spencer is surely a big loss for the gaming industry, and now we have some interesting details coming in. As revealed by The Verge portal, Microsoft employees have expected Spencer to step down, but not Sarah Bond, who was reportedly under consideration to replace him. However, according to the source, the rest of the Microsoft staff were happy to see Sarah Bond leaving the company, specifically, because she wanted to push the Xbox Anywhere program. The idea was to move away from Xbox as a single console and spread the brand through different devices. According to The Verge’s Tom Warren, it was hard to cooperate with Sarah Bond, as she could let herself fire someone who disagreed with her, as you can check below:

Although some gamers are disturbed over Asha Sharma’s appointment as the CEO of Microsoft Gaming, as she doesn’t have experience with gaming, she’s looking to re-establish Xbox, as she revealed during the statement of her appointment: “I want to return to the renegade spirit that built Xbox.” According to the people who worked with Sharma, she’s enthusiastic and has a great experience to bring a new user in her previous campaigns. She might be the right person to work on Xbox reestablishment, and hopefully she will handle this.
