Netflix Is Working on an Animated Show Based on DOOM Franchise
There are plenty of Netflix shows based on video games, such as Dragon’s Dogma, multiple Pokémon and Resident Evil series, Cyberpunk, Castlevania, and so on. It seems like one of the most brutal and famous installments from Bethesda Game Studios is about to receive an animated show soon.
According to the new report, an animated show based on DOOM is reportedly in the works at Netflix. The details are mostly unknown, but it is mentioned that Adi Shankar, who previously worked on the Castlevania and Devil May Cry animated series, will serve as its showrunner. Moreover, id Software, the developers of DOOM video games, is not expected to take part in the series production, and Doomguy will not be the main character, as the animated show will serve as a prequel to the games.
“A DOOM animated series is in the works at Netflix
- Adi Shankar (Devil May Cry) will serve as showrunner;
- The show will be a prequel to the game, taking place during a UAC power struggle;
- ID Software has no involvement with the show;
- Doomguy will not be the main character;”
Unfortunately, there is no information about the release date for the project. Anyway, Netflix’s DOOM animated show could be a great opportunity to explore the universe and expand it in an unusual way. The latest DOOM video game, DOOM: The Dark Ages, came out last year and had the biggest launch in id Software’s history, as more than 3 million players were involved in the first week when the game was released. The game is currently available on PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.
