Fan Project Turns Original Silent Hill Into Full VR Experience
VRified Games is developing a fully playable VR version of the original Silent Hill from 1999. The project converts the PlayStation 1 classic into first-person stereoscopic 3D, adding head-tracking and updated controls while maintaining the original game’s structure. The developer clarified that the project is neither a fan remake nor a port but an experimental adaptation of the original game for virtual reality.
A near-two-minute demonstration video was released on YouTube, showing basic movement, environmental interaction, and camera perspectives. Fans can follow the project’s channel for ongoing updates. No specific release date has been confirmed beyond a tentative “soon-ish.”
The move comes after other horror franchises, including Resident Evil, have already received VR adaptations. The creator said the decision was driven by years of anticipation for a Silent Hill VR project.

Silent Hill has experienced a revival in recent years. Bloober Team released the Silent Hill 2 remake in 2024, followed by Silent Hill f in 2025. Both titles were met with critical acclaim and reinvigorated interest in the franchise. Konami has also signaled a more structured approach, with series producer Motoi Okamoto suggesting annual releases for the franchise moving forward.
The original Silent Hill has remained untouched in VR until now. The new project will allow players to explore the fog-shrouded town of Silent Hill in first-person for the first time, emphasizing immersive horror and environmental interaction. Stills from the VR demonstration show updated camera angles and head-controlled perspectives that translate flat-screen mechanics into VR gameplay.
The project is one of several fan and official initiatives that coincide with the franchise’s resurgence. A live-action Return to Silent Hill movie is scheduled for release later this month, adding to the series’ growing media presence. VRified Games’ adaptation positions the original Silent Hill as part of this wave, providing a bridge between classic gameplay and modern virtual reality standards.
