EA Pushes Back On Rumors As The Sims 4 Future Draws Scrutiny

The Sims 4 has become the center of renewed speculation after a wave of leaks claimed the game is nearing the end of its major development cycle. Electronic Arts has now responded publicly, warning that misinformation is spreading and confirming that official details about the game’s future will be shared at the start of next year.

The response came from a member of The Sims community team just hours after a new rumor circulated online, presenting itself as a detailed outline of what could be The Sims 4’s final expansion pack. That timing intensified discussion across fan spaces, many of which have spent months debating how EA plans to handle the franchise alongside the long-running Project Rene initiative.

The latest claim surfaced on December 23, posted on X by user @phii_oda. According to the post, The Sims 4’s 21st expansion pack is themed around royalty and includes three distinct “kingdom types,” one of them inspired by Africa. The post further claimed that this expansion would mark the final major content release for the game, after which EA would only support it through updates and smaller Kit packs.

Shortly after the rumor spread, the Sims Community website published a report summarizing the leak. That article was then shared on the Sims 4 subreddit, where it gained traction quickly. Roughly three hours later, an official community team member replied directly in the thread.

The comment did not specify which elements of the circulating rumors were inaccurate, nor did it confirm or deny the existence of a final expansion pack. It did, however, mark the first direct acknowledgment from EA in response to the growing volume of claims about The Sims 4’s future. The account that posted the message has been active in an official capacity on the subreddit since May, lending weight to the response.

The “misinformation” reference may extend beyond the royalty expansion rumor. In November, a separate leak appeared on the ATRL forums, posted by a user known as gloamingtheplain. That claim suggested Project Rene’s single-player component, internally referred to as Project X, would be sold as a standalone product toward the end of 2026. The post speculated that the game could be branded as The Sims 5, while also stating it would be less complex than a traditional sequel. It also claimed the next Sims 4 expansion would be its last, though no theme was mentioned.

Around the same time, another rumor suggested EA was considering a remaster of The Sims 4. That idea was met with skepticism from within the community, including from long-time content creator SimMattically, who stated publicly in November that a Sims 4 remaster does not exist. Despite this, discussion around remasters, sunset expansions, and parallel Sims projects has continued to circulate with little concrete information from EA.

What is known is that EA has multiple Sims-related projects in development alongside Project Rene. Reports have pointed to a mobile title and a broader platform initiative known as The Sims Hub, though neither has been formally detailed. The lack of clear timelines has left fans filling in gaps with speculation, particularly as The Sims 4 approaches its second decade on the market.

EA has previously used its “Behind the Sims” video series to outline upcoming plans and reset expectations. In October 2022, the Behind the Sims Summit stream offered the first official look at Project Rene, described at the time as the next generation of the franchise and a new creative platform. A similar presentation in January would align with the company’s past approach to major updates and could clarify whether The Sims 4 is nearing a transition point or entering a prolonged support phase.

Until then, EA’s message is narrow but direct. Official information is coming, and not all current leaks should be taken at face value.
