Players navigate an apocalyptic setting where much of humanity has transformed into hostile creatures. Between dungeon runs and combat encounters, the game focuses on building relationships, scheduling dates, and developing bonds with other survivors. Progression alternates between social interactions and hack-and-slash sequences, tying narrative advancement to both systems.

Epic typically reveals its free weekly games ahead of time, but the holiday period follows a different format. Each daily giveaway appears as a wrapped present icon on the storefront, concealing the title until it goes live. This approach mirrors previous years, when Epic distributed more than a dozen free games in the final weeks of December. Past holiday offerings have included high-profile releases such as Control, Sifu, and Dredge.

Claiming Eternights follows the same process as other Epic giveaways. Users must log into their Epic Games Store account and add the game to their library before the daily reset. Each mystery game remains available for 24 hours, with the lineup changing daily at 11 a.m. EST. Once claimed, the game remains accessible without expiration.

Eternights follows Jotunnslayer: Hordes of Hel, which was made available on December 18 as part of the same promotion. Epic has not disclosed which titles will appear next, maintaining the surprise element throughout the event. The campaign is positioned as a seasonal incentive rather than a standard promotion, aimed at driving daily engagement during the holiday period.
