Microsoft Releases New Holiday Sweaters — Artifact Design Celebrates 50 Years!

Microsoft has revived its annual holiday sweater tradition with the launch of three new designs priced between $60 and $80. The highlight of this year’s collection is the Artifact sweater, created to celebrate the company’s 50th anniversary. While the design leans heavily on nostalgic Windows icons from the Windows 3.1–Windows XP era, it also includes a surprising modern addition — the Copilot AI logo.

A closer look at Microsoft’s new Christmas sweaters

The standout piece of the 2025 lineup, the Artifact Holiday Sweater ($80), is covered in pixel-art renditions of classic Windows icons: Notepad, Reversi, Paint, MS-DOS, Internet Explorer, and the MSN butterfly. True to tradition, Clippy, the beloved paperclip assistant, takes center stage once again.

The sweater blends vintage charm with contemporary references, including a sunglasses emoji, a bold “50” to mark Microsoft’s milestone, and even a Minecraft Creeper. However, the most talked-about element is the monochrome pixelated Copilot symbol placed on the right sleeve — a modern AI icon surrounded by retro nostalgia.

Alongside the flagship design, Microsoft is offering two other themed sweaters:

• a black-and-lime Xbox sweater ($60)
• a brown-and-orange Zune sweater featuring the classic media player logo and play/pause symbols ($80)

Availability

All three sweaters are being sold in limited quantities through the Microsoft Company Store, both online and at the company’s physical retail locations in Seattle and New York.

Within an hour of launch, most sizes of the Artifact sweater were already sold out, though Microsoft continues to accept orders while preparing for a restock.

The return of a fan-favorite tradition

Microsoft began its holiday sweater tradition in 2018 with a Windows 95–themed sweater that wasn’t publicly sold but gifted to select fans. Subsequent years saw designs inspired by Windows XP (2019), Paint (2020), Minesweeper (2021), Clippy (2022), and the iconic Bliss wallpaper (2023).

After skipping the release in 2024, Microsoft’s return to holiday sweaters in 2025 has been welcomed as a pleasant surprise by longtime followers of the tradition.
