Originally, the release was scheduled for late 2025, before being postponed to May 26, 2026. Now, Rockstar has issued another delay, explaining that the team needs additional time for final polishing and quality assurance.

In an official statement, Rockstar wrote:

“We regret that you’ll have to wait a bit longer, but these additional months will allow us to deliver the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

According to the studio, when they commit to a release date, they aim to meet it — but if more time is required to meet internal quality standards, it’s better to take it. The new release window still falls within Take-Two’s current fiscal year, ensuring minimal disruption to company forecasts.

Expectations for GTA VI have been monumental. The previous mainline entry, GTA V, debuted in 2013, and fans have been waiting for more than a decade for a true successor.

Following the announcement, Take-Two Interactive’s stock saw a slight decline during post-market trading.

Meanwhile, the internet’s response has been a mix of disappointment and humor. Many players expressed frustration about yet another delay, while others joked that “waiting for GTA VI is now a generational tradition.”

Although fans now have a firm date, Rockstar has yet to confirm PC or other platform releases beyond PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The new timeline gives Rockstar and Take-Two room to roll out marketing campaigns, new trailers, and in-depth previews over the next year.

While the delay may frustrate fans, Rockstar’s history suggests the wait will be worthwhile. Pushing GTA VI to November 19, 2026, signals the company’s intent to deliver not just another sequel, but a next-generation blockbuster worthy of its legendary name.
