Leaked PS5 Store Icons Hint at Possible Cross-Buy and “Echo Mode” Features in Development
A recent leak suggests that unused PlayStation 5 store icons might point to upcoming features like cross-buy functionality and a mysterious “echo mode” for Sony’s console. The leaked icons also include symbols that could indicate which titles are available on both PS5 and PC—though these particular icons do not appear in the PlayStation 4 database.
Since its rocky debut in 2020, the PS5 has steadily expanded its player base, driven by a lineup of exclusives and continued support for major third-party releases. As Sony gradually phases out PlayStation 4 support, more players have transitioned to the PS5, taking advantage of backward compatibility and exclusive next-gen experiences. While several of Sony’s biggest hits—such as God of War Ragnarok and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth—have since arrived on PC, the PS5 remains a cost-effective alternative to building a mid-range gaming computer.
New Icons Suggest Expanding Platform Integration
Though all leaks should be treated cautiously, this new information could reveal hints of Sony’s future plans. Twitter user Amethxst shared screenshots and footage suggesting that several new icons are being tested on the PS5 interface and PlayStation Network websites. Among them is a “PS5/PC” icon that might identify Sony-published games available across both platforms, such as Lost Soul Aside. Another icon, labeled “Cross-Buy,” was also discovered—though its exact function has yet to be confirmed.
The potential introduction of cross-buy would bring Sony closer to Microsoft’s “Xbox Play Anywhere” initiative, which allows players to access purchased titles on both PC and console. Additional leaked icons feature green and gray variations with a charging symbol, as well as placeholders for games supporting cloud saves and DualSense touchpad integration. Notably, these new icons appear only in the PS5 system files and not in the PS4’s.

Evidence and Community Reaction
To address skepticism, Amethxst released a short video showcasing the icons in action within their PSN profile info box, complete with short descriptions. According to the leaker, these icons were quietly added to the database between March and November 2025, suggesting they are part of ongoing updates rather than legacy assets.
With the PS5 surpassing 80 million units sold, Sony shows no sign of slowing down its support for the platform. Whether these icons hint at major new features or simply represent internal testing remains to be seen—but fans are already speculating about what “echo mode” and cross-buy could mean for the future of PlayStation gaming.
