A report from YouTuber Moore’s Law Is Dead claims to have seen a document referencing PlayStation’s plans to start PS6 production “in the middle to even early 2027.” This aligns with speculation that Sony’s next major console could arrive around 2028. While the company has not made any official statements, this timeframe would fit Sony’s established console cycle, mirroring the seven-year gap between the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
The PlayStation 5 began manufacturing in August 2020 and was released just three months later in November of the same year. If Sony follows a similar schedule, an early 2027 production start could mean a PS6 release in late summer or autumn of that year. This potential launch window fits earlier suggestions from PlayStation architect Mark Cerny, who hinted that the next console generation was already in early development during a recent technology talk.
The report from TheGamer’s Joshua Robertson adds that, despite limited first-party exclusives for the PS5 so far, Sony appears fully committed to transitioning into its next hardware cycle.
