Konami Survey Asks Fans Which Metal Gear Should Be Remade Next

Konami has opened a new survey to gauge fan interest in future remakes of the Metal Gear series, with options covering nearly every mainline title, including the unexpected inclusion of Metal Gear Solid V. The survey arrives just ahead of the Tokyo Game Show, where the company is set to host its next “Metal Gear–Production Hotline” broadcast.

The survey, first spotted by the fan account Metal Gear Network, asks players what kind of information they want from these official broadcasts, with options such as updates on Metal Gear Solid: The Master Collection Vol. 2 and details on “other future developments in the Metal Gear series.” Most notably, it then prompts respondents to select which Metal Gear entry they would like to see remade. The list includes Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes, and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, along with an “Other” option for additional suggestions.

The omission of certain titles stands out, particularly the non-Kojima-developed Metal Gear 2 and spin-offs such as Portable Ops and Metal Gear Ac!d. These games remain absent from the choices despite their place in the wider history of the franchise. Fans are also pointing to Ghost Babel, the Game Boy Color entry, as a cult favorite candidate that could benefit from a modern treatment.

The inclusion of both Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain is the most surprising aspect of the survey. These games are relatively recent compared to the other options and already have PC versions that remain visually and mechanically strong. By contrast, the earlier PlayStation and MSX titles show their age more dramatically, making them prime candidates for a full remake.

Konami’s decision to remake Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater as Metal Gear Solid Delta was widely seen as a logical first step. Originally released on PlayStation 2, Snake Eater represented a fan-favorite entry that could benefit from a modern overhaul. The remake launched earlier this year to a generally positive reception, praised for its faithfulness to the source material, even if some critics felt it leaned too heavily on reverence for the original.

The new survey suggests Konami may not be finished with its efforts to modernize the series. Following the release of Delta, the publisher has been attempting to rebuild its reputation with long-dormant franchises. Silent Hill is also undergoing a revival, with Silent Hill f gaining positive traction. The company’s strategy now appears focused on bringing classic properties back into relevance, either through faithful remakes or new entries designed to extend their legacy.

The question of what comes after remakes remains open. While reworking classic titles brings renewed attention to the series, some long-term fans continue to speculate on whether Konami might eventually attempt an entirely new installment. The absence of Hideo Kojima, who departed the company in 2015 after The Phantom Pain, looms over any future plans. Voice actor David Hayter recently remarked that replicating Kojima’s “exact genius” would be impossible, though he suggested a new Metal Gear could still succeed in a way similar to how Batman has been reimagined across different creative teams.

Konami has shown with Delta that it can handle a major Metal Gear remake with care, and the survey indicates that fan feedback will play a role in shaping what comes next. Whether the company decides to revisit the MSX-era origins, modernize the PlayStation-era classics, or double down on more recent titles remains to be seen. What is clear is that Konami is actively testing the waters to measure demand across the franchise’s history.

For fans, this renewed activity marks a stark change after years of uncertainty surrounding Metal Gear’s future. Konami’s willingness to ask players directly which entries deserve attention suggests a more open approach than in the past.
