Epic Games Cracks Down on Voice Chat in Fortnite’s New "Delulu" Mode

Fortnite’s latest game mode is turning heads — and prompting Epic Games to step up its moderation efforts. Known for constantly reinventing the battle royale formula, Fortnite has offered players plenty of creative ways to play over the years, from limited-time modes like Ballistic and Blitz Royale to permanent features such as Zero Build. Now, the newest addition, Delulu, is making waves for both its chaotic gameplay and its heavy focus on voice chat.

Introducing the Delulu Game Mode

Epic Games officially launched Delulu late last week, offering players a faster-paced, squad-based twist on traditional Fortnite gameplay. Matches feature up to 60 players, with a unique mechanic allowing players to form or join squads of up to four members mid-match — even switching alliances on the fly to turn the tide of battle.

Delulu’s standout feature is its proximity voice chat, which allows players not just to talk with squadmates, but to communicate — or trash talk — with nearby opponents. This mechanic creates a more immersive, chaotic experience, but it has also raised the stakes for moderation.

Surge in Bans for Toxic Behavior

Many players have reported a noticeable rise in bans since Delulu’s launch. Fortnite’s official Fortnite Status account confirmed that thousands of players have been removed from the mode for “behavior that violates our community rules.”

Epic Games appears to be making extensive use of its voice reporting system, which lets players report harassment, hate speech, or other misconduct directly from in-game chat. The developer also reminded the community of the proper reporting steps to ensure the new mode remains fun and safe for everyone.

Positive Community Reaction

Despite the uptick in bans, the reaction from much of the Fortnite community has been positive. Players have praised Epic for acting quickly to “keep chat clean” and for removing those using hate speech or offensive language.

Delulu’s squad-swapping mechanic already creates high-stakes moments where betrayals and sudden alliances are part of the fun. Strong moderation helps maintain the balance, preventing toxic behavior from overshadowing the mode’s unpredictable, chaotic charm.

Fortnite’s Busy Season of Updates

Delulu’s debut comes during a particularly exciting time for Fortnite. Recent leaks hint at upcoming crossovers with Daft Punk, The Binding of Isaac, and K-Pop Demon Hunters, while Chapter 6 Season 4 has already delivered major additions like Kai Cenat and John Cena skins.
