New Batman Arkham Game Reportedly in Development
A new entry in the Batman Arkham franchise may be on the horizon, with reports suggesting that Camouflaj—the studio behind Batman: Arkham Shadow—is already preparing a sequel. 🦇
Arkham Shadow’s Success
Released in October 2024, Batman: Arkham Shadow marked a bold step for the series as a VR-exclusive action adventure. Developed by Camouflaj, an Oculus Studios subsidiary based in Bellevue, Washington, the game received widespread acclaim. On OpenCritic, it earned a “Mighty” rating with an 86 average score and a 100% recommendation rate, cementing itself as one of the most celebrated VR titles of recent years.
Its popularity was reflected commercially as well—by February 2025, the game had surpassed 1 million players, making it one of the fastest-growing big-budget VR releases to date.
Sequel Leak From Commissioner Gordon’s Actor
The existence of a follow-up came to light in a recent Fan Expo Chicago 2025 interview. Veteran actor Mark Rolston, who voiced and performed motion capture for Commissioner Gordon in Arkham Shadow, casually revealed that he is set to reprise his role:
“We’re about to start another one of those. I play Commissioner Gordon.”
Rolston confirmed he had done “complete motion capture, voice, and everything” for the original, suggesting similar involvement for the upcoming project. While no official announcement has been made, his comments strongly imply that Camouflaj has already begun early production on the sequel.
When Could It Release?
The first Arkham Shadow reportedly spent four years in development after entering full production in late 2020. If its sequel follows a similar schedule, fans may not see the next chapter until 2028 or 2029. Rolston’s comments also indicate that motion capture has not yet started, hinting that the game is still in early pre-production.
As with the original, the sequel is expected to remain Meta-exclusive, as Oculus Studios is likely to fully fund and publish the project to strengthen its VR ecosystem.
Rocksteady’s Return to Batman?
Interestingly, this isn’t the only Batman project rumored to be in the works. In February 2025, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that Rocksteady Studios is developing a new single-player Batman game, its first since Batman: Arkham Knight (2015). Details remain scarce, and it’s unclear whether Rocksteady’s title will continue the established Arkhamverse or chart a new direction entirely.
With both Camouflaj and Rocksteady seemingly preparing their own Batman projects, fans could be looking at the most exciting era for the Dark Knight in gaming since Arkham Knight’s release a decade ago.
