Classic iMac G3 Could Return as a LEGO Set

The Apple iMac G3 — an icon of late-1990s design — may soon be reborn in LEGO form. A fan-made replica has already earned over 6,000 votes on the LEGO Ideas platform, needing roughly 4,000 more to reach official review.

A Nostalgic Build

Created by designer Fuma Terai, the set consists of around 700 pieces and recreates the original 1998 Bondi Blue iMac G3. The build features a transparent case with carefully detailed internals, including a motherboard, cooling elements, and wiring. To complete the throwback, a LEGO keyboard and mouse are also included.

To capture the authentic look, the model comes with custom stickers showcasing the classic iMac logo and a Mac OS screensaver. Despite being made from LEGO bricks, the design successfully mirrors the iMac’s signature rounded curves — a hallmark of Apple’s first major product after Steve Jobs returned to the company.

The LEGO Ideas Path

LEGO Ideas gives fans the chance to submit original concepts. Once a project gathers 10,000 votes, it enters an official review process with LEGO’s design and legal teams. Out of more than 150 projects that hit this milestone each year, only about six make it into production.

Fuma Terai is no stranger to success: his Gremlins set previously became an official LEGO release. With that track record, his iMac G3 design could stand a strong chance of following in its footsteps.
