Randy Pitchford Reveals Borderlands 4 Figurine Map, Surprises Fans

In a surprise move, Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford took to X (formerly Twitter) to share an early glimpse of Borderlands 4's world map — specifically highlighting the approximate locations of collectible Marcus Bobblehead figurines. His post came as part of a broader discussion about the studio’s ambitions in building a fully immersive game world.

Pitchford explained that one of the team’s top priorities was to craft a seamless open world, giving players the freedom to explore without loading screens or artificial barriers. To reward exploration, the developers hid dozens of Marcus figurines in the most out-of-the-way places — nooks and crannies that casual players might miss entirely.

Finding these collectibles won’t be easy. But for those who love a challenge, Pitchford promised that each hidden figurine would feel like its own mini-discovery. In a clever design touch, the environment around each location provides subtle hints about why someone might have left a Marcus figure there.

Later, Pitchford revealed that there are over 200 such figurines scattered throughout the world and even published a map showing their general locations. While some fans were surprised by the early reveal, Pitchford downplayed the concerns.

He pointed out that detailed guides will inevitably flood the internet as soon as the game launches. “If you want to explore on your own,” he said, “just ignore the map.”
