Why Masteries Were Removed

According to the development team, Masteries simply weren’t working as intended. Players found the system confusing, especially the way Trophy progression converted into Mastery points, which wasn’t clearly explained. On top of that, the system encouraged grindy gameplay, which the devs now admit goes against their vision for fun and rewarding progression.

The team also acknowledged a major oversight: when Masteries were removed, several key rewards tied to new Brawlers disappeared with them. The good news is that these rewards will return soon—reworked into the Battle Pass as deterministic rewards, similar to what players receive for unlocking Legendary Brawlers.

Early Access Rework: Play More, Pay Less

Another concern was around Credit banking and early access. Many players felt pressured to save up rewards or risk losing them to Fame. To fix this, the devs are revamping the early access system so that future Brawlers can be unlocked through gameplay alone—without paywalls.

This means that Trunk will be the last Brawler gated behind an in-app purchase. Going forward, every new Brawler will be free to try from day one, giving all players equal opportunity to experience new content.

More Rewards, Better Experience Ahead

Despite the misstep, the Brawl Stars team remains committed to listening to player feedback and improving the game. With the new system changes, a more accessible approach to content, and improved reward structures, the future looks promising.
