Project Motor Racing Races Toward November 2025 Launch with New Vision and Publisher
Project Motor Racing—the spiritual successor to the legendary GTR series—is officially set to launch on November 25, 2025, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Originally unveiled as GTR Revival in September 2022 by veteran racing game developer Ian Bell, the project has since evolved significantly, including a rebrand and change in publisher.
Now backed by GIANTS Software (best known for Farming Simulator), Project Motor Racing (PMR) is being developed using the mod-friendly GIANTS Engine 10. The game is being created by key developers from GTR 2, aiming to recapture the simulation depth and realism that defined the franchise.
A Delayed But Focused Development Cycle
Originally scheduled for late 2024, PMR’s development hit a few bumps, prompting a strategic rebranding and a shift in publishing duties from PLAION (formerly Koch Media) to GIANTS Software. The latest YouTube reveal trailer confirmed the finalized launch date and gave fans a glimpse at what’s to come.
At launch, PMR will offer:
- 27 fully licensed, real-world tracks, recreated in 1:1 detail
- 72 cars across 10 distinct racing classes
- A traditional Career Mode
- Online multiplayer, though specifics remain under wraps for now
A Career Mode Built on Realism
What sets Project Motor Racing apart from most racing sims is its dedication to realism—not just in driving physics, but in the life of a professional racer. Instead of unlocking cars through victory, players will earn money from race performance and manage all aspects of their career, including:
- Purchasing vehicles
- Covering travel expenses and entry fees
- Paying for repairs and upgrades
The game aims to create an "authentic motorsports economy", where making a living is just as challenging as reaching the podium.
Players will have the freedom to start their journey as a Journeyman Driver, at the Professional Level, or under a Global Operation, each providing a different budget and scope. Additionally, the starting region—Europe, North America, or Asia—will influence car part pricing, maintenance costs, and financial opportunities.
Cautious Optimism from the Community
While excitement around PMR is building, some fans remain cautiously optimistic. Ian Bell’s previous work, including the ambitious but divisive Project CARS 3, has left parts of the community hesitant. As a result, many may wait for hands-on reviews before making a purchase.
Still, with its deep career mechanics, realism-first approach, and strong development pedigree, Project Motor Racing has the potential to become a standout entry in the racing sim genre when it launches this November.
