Nintendo Direct Likely Coming Soon Ahead of Switch 2 Launch, Says Insider

A trusted industry insider has reported that Nintendo is gearing up for a new Nintendo Direct presentation, expected to take place very soon—possibly aligning with the upcoming Switch 2 launch. While fans may hope for new hardware details, this showcase might primarily focus on upcoming game release dates rather than Nintendo’s next-generation console.

Insider Behind Switch 2 Leak Hints at Late May or Early June Direct

The prediction comes from Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, a respected Brazilian journalist known as PH Brazil. Over the past few years, Lippe has developed a reputation for accurate reports on Nintendo’s internal plans. He notably broke the news that the Switch 2 is set for a 2025 release, even while most experts were still expecting a 2024 launch.

During a livestream in late May 2025, Lippe stated that a Nintendo Direct is likely happening either the week of May 26 or the following week, as noted by Famiboards user Dan. If true, this would place the Direct just ahead of the Switch 2’s scheduled launch on June 5. Still, insiders caution that this presentation may not be focused on Switch 2 software, but rather on clearing out announcements for current-gen titles.

Several 2025 Switch Titles Still Missing Release Dates

Nintendo has yet to confirm launch dates for several highly anticipated Nintendo Switch games set for 2025. This includes major titles such as:

  • Pokémon Legends: Z-A
  • Metroid Prime 4: Beyond
  • Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment

Given that these games remain undated, it makes strategic sense for Nintendo to dedicate an upcoming Direct to finalizing the current-gen release calendar before shifting the spotlight fully to Switch 2.

Switch 2 Games May Still Get a Sneak Peek

If the rumored Direct happens before June 5, there’s still a chance we’ll get another look at some of the upcoming Switch 2 exclusives. Titles like Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza could make brief appearances to stoke anticipation. And while the focus may not be on Switch 2, Nintendo is known for dropping surprise announcements, especially during the summer months.

Nintendo’s June Direct Tradition Continues

Historically, June is a major month for Nintendo showcases. Since the introduction of Nintendo Directs in late 2011, the company has consistently hosted at least one major event every June. From 2012 to 2024, Nintendo averaged two presentations per June, with most of them being Directs rather than Pokémon-specific showcases.

All signs point to a June 2025 Direct being almost inevitable—whether to set the stage for the Switch 2 or tie up loose ends from the current generation.
