Doom armour in Oblivion mod removed after takedown notice

If you ever wanted to rip and tear through Daedra in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, 2025 just gave you that chance — briefly. A new mod called Slayer of Kvatch dropped onto Nexus Mods, letting you don the Doom Slayer's Praetor armour inside Oblivion Remastered. It was a clear love letter to Doom: The Dark Ages, and a surreal crossover that worked shockingly well. But it didn’t last long.

That’s right — Bethesda may have swung the mighty copyright hammer.

Before the takedown, the mod was gaining attention for blending Doom aesthetics with Elder Scrolls mechanics in a way that didn’t feel like a joke. Modder RuneOracle97 managed to bring the Praetor suit into the game as a standalone heavy armour set you could acquire during the Kvatch Oblivion Gate questline. It didn’t just look like Doom Slayer gear slapped into Tamriel — it actually fit the vibe, especially when you picture Oblivion’s fiery hellscapes and Daedric monstrosities.

According to the creator, the armour was “slightly lighter than Daedric, but offers slightly more protection, with x2 the armour health value.” It also came with a full gear set, though due to the model’s structure, partial equipping made your character partially invisible. Not game-breaking, but definitely immersion-breaking unless you wore the full set. Have you seen what Oblivion Remastered looks like on a CRT screen? Speaking of immersiveness.

Modding plans that went beyond armour

The release wasn’t meant to be a one-and-done. RuneOracle97 had larger plans:

“I’m still working on it and will eventually change the acquisition method of the armour entirely with a fully featured quest revolving around the Doom Slayer and how he might end up in Cyrodiil.”

The idea of a Doom Slayer-inspired side quest in the Elder Scrolls universe sounded wild, but also totally plausible by Elder Scrolls standards. This is the same world where Daedric Princes invade mortal realms, and talking dogs casually exist. Whether through Sheogorath’s chaos or some wild Aedra experiment gone wrong, the idea of the Slayer appearing in Tamriel isn't even that far-fetched. The mod didn’t push any lore boundaries more than Oblivion itself already did.

More ways to make Oblivion harder, Slayer-style

Other mods that paired well with Slayer of Kvatch — particularly NaiadGirl’s Quarantined Oblivion Gates, which ramps up the chaos at gate sites with more Daedra and tougher encounters. And among the mods that recreate the classic experience, I recommend taking a look at Goblin War, which is not in the vanilla version of the remaster. That combination turned Kvatch into a full-on demon warzone, letting you truly roleplay as the last line of defence in the fight against Mehrunes Dagon, with the proper Doom drip to match.

So, why the takedown? That’s still unclear.

A takedown, but not a denial

While Nexus Mods confirmed the takedown was staff-enforced, we don’t have official word yet from Bethesda. However, the fact that the mod used clearly identifiable Doom IP — especially the design of the Praetor suit — makes this more than just another fan mod. It was pushing pretty close to copyrighted visual territory, and with Doom: The Dark Ages coming soon, Bethesda may be tightening up anything that looks too official. Timing-wise, it adds up.

The 'Slayer of Kvatch' mod has been taken down from Nexus Mods, with its page now noting that: "The mod you were looking for was removed by a member of staff." The mod's creator has reached out to VG247, claiming that this takedown was due to a request from Bethesda. VG247 has reached out to Bethesda for comment.

It's unfortunate because the mod wasn’t monetised and was obviously a fan tribute, not some attempt to steal sales from Doom. But that rarely makes a difference when IP protection gets involved.

If you’re hoping for a reupload, don’t hold your breath. These takedowns, once they happen on Nexus, usually mean it’s not coming back in its current form. Modders sometimes rework assets or remove copyrighted parts, but the Doom Slayer’s armour is the whole mod. Without that, you’re left with… nothing.

Still, RuneOracle97 seems committed to modding for Oblivion Remastered, so a spiritual successor might rise from the ashes, minus the lawsuits. If they find a way to create a “Slayer-inspired” set instead of a direct rip, that could still offer fans a similar vibe without risking another takedown.

The short life of Slayer of Kvatch proves two things: people really, really want Doom and Elder Scrolls to collide, and modders are always looking for new ways to push the boundaries of what’s possible. Even if the mod’s gone, it did its job — it hyped up The Dark Ages, gave fans something fun to mess around with, and reminded us just how flexible Oblivion’s modding scene still is, even nearly two decades later.

If Bethesda ever wants to make a real Doom x Elder Scrolls crossover, there’s now proof it’d go over just fine. Maybe Sheogorath can write the pitch.
