GTA VI May Feature Liberty City Alongside Vice City, Fans Speculate After New Trailer

After the release of Grand Theft Auto VI's second trailer, fans are once again in full detective mode — and a new theory is gaining traction. While Vice City and the fictional state of Leonida have already been confirmed as the main setting, sharp-eyed viewers believe that Liberty City might also make a surprise return.

A Massive, Multi-Region Map

Rockstar previously revealed that GTA VI will take place in Leonida, a modern-day version of Florida, with a map nearly twice the size of GTA V. The game will span three counties:

• Vice-Dale – inspired by Miami
• Leonard County
• Kelly County

Players will also explore a variety of distinct biomes and locales, including the swampy Grassrivers and the tropical Leonida Keys.

Clues Point to Liberty City’s Return

In the latest trailer, fans noticed subtle hints that could signal the inclusion of Liberty City — Rockstar’s long-standing version of New York. One character wears a cap labeled “Liberty City,” and a car license plate from the same city is briefly visible. Moreover, the official GTA VI website confirms that the protagonist, Lucia, and her mother are originally from Liberty City — fueling speculation that the city could either be a secondary playable location or play a role in the game’s story.

A Familiar Rockstar Pattern?

This wouldn’t be the first time Rockstar has kept major map elements under wraps. In Red Dead Redemption 2, a massive additional region wasn’t revealed until launch, suggesting the studio could be using the same tactic to surprise players in GTA VI.

Release Date and Platforms

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled to release on May 26, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A PC version will follow at a later date.
