Virtua Fighter 6 Could Be Officially Revealed at Today’s Sega Presentation
Big news for virtual fighting game fans! Sega has announced the Virtua Fighter Direct presentation, set to take place on May 11, 2025. The livestream will begin at 7:00 AM PT/ 9:00 AM ET/ 4:00 PM Kyiv time and is expected to shed light on the future of the iconic Virtua Fighter series.
It’s been nearly two decades since the release of Virtua Fighter 5, yet the franchise remains one of the most important in the history of 3D fighting games. Despite the passage of time and the evolution of gaming platforms, the series still has a loyal community. The recent release of Virtua Fighter 5 R.E.V.O. with rollback netcode support helped revitalize the game and bring it to a new audience.
While Sega hasn’t revealed the full presentation lineup or officially confirmed the reveal of Virtua Fighter 6, fans (ourselves included) are convinced this is the main event. Back in January, the studio showed a brief in-engine teaser featuring a duel between two versions of Akira, the franchise’s poster character.
The new installment is being developed by Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, best known for the Yakuza and Like a Dragon series. It’s expected that Virtua Fighter 6 will launch on PC and modern consoles, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and potentially Nintendo Switch 2. Many fans are hopeful that the PC version will receive the same level of attention as VF5 R.E.V.O., rather than being treated as an afterthought.
It’s very possible that today we’ll see the first gameplay footage, learn about a potential release window, and get a full list of platforms. We’re excited for the reveal — and the big question is whether the new Virtua Fighter can stand toe-to-toe with Street Fighter, Tekken, and other giants of the genre. Could this be Sega’s step toward the esports scene? Time will tell.
