The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion has recently received a remaster and is once again ready to win the hearts of gamers around the world. The game is packed with a wealth of content, mechanics, and gameplay features. So if you're playing for the first time, you might run into some difficulties. To help make your journey as smooth as possible—especially at the beginning—I’ve prepared a guide on Oblivion Remastered Best Early Weapons.

Oblivion Remastered Best Early Weapons - Umbra Sword & Frostwyrm Bow

The best part about this gear is that you can obtain it as early as level one, and today we’ll be talking about the Umbra Sword and the Frostwyrm Bow. These two truly deserve the title of Oblivion Remastered Best Early Weapons, as they provide everything you need for a successful start to your adventure. From high damage to powerful effects, these weapons have it all.

The Umbra Sword is one of the best weapons in the game and can remain useful for a very long time—potentially even until the end of your playthrough. Meanwhile, the Frostwyrm Bow serves you well up until around level 19–20, right before you gain access to glass and daedric weaponry. And one of the nicest things about the Frostwyrm Bow is its freezing effect, which not only looks beautiful but is also incredibly useful.

Oblivion Remastered - Umbra

Let’s start with the Umbra Sword and how to find it. Its location is slightly different from the original version of the game. Southwest of the Imperial City, you’ll find the ruins known as Vindasel. They’re very easy to reach, and you can get there right at the beginning of the game—just after escaping from the prison.

You’ll need to make your way into the ruins and carefully navigate through a room filled with poison traps. A small tip: stay close to the walls, or you’ll die quickly.

At the end of this short journey, you’ll encounter an NPC named Umbra. She’s technically a non-hostile character who offers a quest related to her storyline along with some minor rewards. However, what’s far more interesting to us is her gear. In previous versions of the game, you had to lure her into a city, where the guards would take care of her.

But in Oblivion Remastered, there’s a much easier way to handle the situation. All you need to do is temporarily set the difficulty to the lowest setting and climb onto one of the columns, where you can safely attack her—she won’t be able to reach you.

It might take some time, but you can slowly wear her down with a bow, or, if you have a Fireball spell, you can finish her off with fire magic.

The most important thing is to make sure you’re still at level 1 when you fight her. If you level up, the game will scale the enemies accordingly, which we definitely want to avoid.

Once you defeat this irritated woman, you’ll be able to loot the Umbra Sword from her. And the best part — its stats are not level-scaled, meaning you can use the sword throughout the entire game. It’s one of the most useful weapons you can get early on, and I highly recommend you don’t miss the opportunity to grab it.

Oblivion Remastered - Frostwyrm Bow

The next weapon that also deserves the title of Oblivion Remastered Best Early Weapon is the Frostwyrm Bow. This bow will serve you well for quite a long time, so it’s definitely worth taking the time to find it.

You can locate the bow in the far northeastern part of the map, at a place called Diva Rock.

Once you arrive there, you’ll need to climb up the mountain, where you’ll find an abandoned campsite and a journal. You can read it to dive deeper into the game’s lore, but it’s not necessary for finding the bow.

The most important thing is to head up the ridge behind the camp, where you’ll spot a semi-invisible troll in the distance.

In previous versions of the game, defeating this troll was pure torture. Just like with Umbra, the only viable strategy was to lure him into a city and let the guards handle him.

But in Oblivion Remastered, things have become much easier — you can kill the semi-transparent troll with just a few arrows on the lowest difficulty setting.
