Civilization VII received a major 1.2.0 update
We’ve finally waited long enough, and Firaxis has released update 1.2.0 for Civilization 7. It’s the biggest update since the game’s launch. The fact that the update is so massive is definitely pleasing, but not really surprising. Players have long complained that the game felt more like a rough draft, and now the studio has seriously started fixing the situation.
The most significant part of this update is the overhauled resource system. Ten new types have been added, including llamas, mangoes, rubies, and tin. Rare resources are now only available in specific climate zones and continents, which is meant to encourage expansion. “You can’t just sit at home and build an empire in isolation anymore,” say the developers.
To access important resources, players will now need to go beyond the borders of their countries. A new mechanic — the Silver Fleet — has also been introduced. Now you can send a special unit to control resources located outside your empire without having to found a city. In my opinion, this particular update is really exciting. It adds more variety to gameplay and strategy.
These new features impact the economy, diplomacy, military conflicts, and demographics, as some of the new resources directly contribute to the development of agriculture.
In addition, team multiplayer has returned to the game: alliance members can now work together, share maps and diplomatic information, while still maintaining individual progress in science and culture. So now, at last, you can play with your friends and lead your civilization to the top.
