If you’ve been dying for a fresh dose of psychological horror, body horror, and eerie, spine-chilling monsters, this one is for you. The town is being consumed by horrifying spores, and it’s crawling with terrifying creatures. Now, let’s take a quick refresher on the Silent Hill series for those who may not be as familiar with the horror franchise that started it all. Silent Hill (Japanese: サイレントヒル) was created by Keiichiro Toyama and published by Konami. The first four main games – Silent Hill, Silent Hill 2, Silent Hill 3, and Silent Hill 4: The Room – were developed by Team Silent, a division within Konami that brought these early survival horror classics to life between 1999 and 2004.

The series is centered around the fictional town of Silent Hill, a cursed place plagued by supernatural events. It follows different characters as they venture into the eerie town and face unspeakable horrors, psychological torment, and mysteries tied to their pasts. The chilling and unsettling nature of the town made Silent Hill one of the most iconic horror video game franchises of all time.

After the original four, the franchise was taken over by other developers. Games like Silent Hill: Origins, Silent Hill: Homecoming, and Silent Hill: Downpour (released between 2007 and 2012) were made by other studios, mostly based in the West. The series has even expanded beyond games, with novels, two films, and spin-offs bringing more terror to fans worldwide. As of 2013, the Silent Hill series has sold over 8.4 million copies globally. And with the 2024 remake of Silent Hill 2 and the upcoming Silent Hill f, it looks like Konami is reviving the franchise in a big way.

Despite all the changes in developers and storylines, the core theme of Silent Hill has always remained the same: psychological horror. The games often feature "everyman" characters, who are just regular people thrust into extraordinary, terrifying situations. It’s that very aspect that makes Silent Hill so relatable and haunting – it’s not the monsters that are the scariest part, but the way they play with your mind and your emotions.

Silent Hill f scriptwriter – Ryukishi07 (竜騎士07), born November 19, 1973, is a renowned Japanese writer and the creative mind behind the When They Cry visual novel series, which includes Higurashi When They Cry, Umineko When They Cry, and Ciconia When They Cry. As the leader of the doujin group 07th Expansion, Ryukishi07 is known for blending psychological horror with intricate storytelling. His pen name, derived from Final Fantasy's "Dragoon" and the number "07," represents his unique approach to narrative
His writing often combines dark, macabre themes with moments of levity, drawing inspiration from classic works like And Then There Were None. Despite initially targeting a niche otaku audience, his works have gained a massive following globally.

If you’re into psychological horror, body horror, and unsettling, disturbing atmospheres, Silent Hill f is shaping up to be a must-play. If the trailer is anything to go by, this new chapter will not only introduce new characters but also expand the lore in terrifying ways. The shift to a 1960s Japanese setting brings fresh cultural influences, and the new monsters and environmental storytelling look like they’ll keep players on the edge of their seats.
