Steam Smashes Record with Over 40 Million Concurrent Players
Valve's Steam platform has set a new record, exceeding 40 million concurrent users. On March 2, 2025, Steam officially reached 40,270,997 concurrent players, breaking its previous peak of 39 million set in December 2024.
Which Games Are Leading in Steam?
The most played game at the moment is Counter-Strike 2, maintaining its dominance at the top. However, Monster Hunter Wilds has made an impressive entry into second place, with a peak of 1.38 million concurrent players.

The top five most-played games in the last 24 hours are:
- Counter-Strike 2
- Monster Hunter Wilds
- PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS
- Dota 2
- Marvel Rivals
Other notable games in the top ten include NARAKA: BLADEPOINT, Grand Theft Auto 5, Rust, and Apex Legends. Meanwhile, Path of Exile 2, which had a strong showing in December, has now dropped to 24th place.
Why Is Steam Still Growing?
Steam continues to expand its player base, showing no signs of slowing down. The release of Monster Hunter Wilds, ongoing multiplayer engagement, and an upcoming GTA 5 Next-Gen Update on March 6th are all contributing to this surge.
Long-time favorites likeBaldur’s Gate 3, Delta Force, Call of Duty, EA Sports FC 25, and Rainbow Six Siege remain in the top 25, proving their staying power.
The Bigger Picture
Despite some single-player games reaching massive peaks at launch (such asHogwarts Legacy, Lost Ark, Valheim, Fallout 4, and Cyberpunk 2077), they naturally decline over time. However, Steam’s continuous growth indicates that online multiplayer games are thriving, and Valve’s platform remains a powerhouse in the PC gaming market.
With no signs of slowing down, the question remains: How long until Steam breaks 50 million?
