Reburn Unveils La Quimera: A New Sci-Fi FPS from the Creators of Metro
Get ready to dive into a dystopian future! 4A Ukraine, the studio behind the beloved Metro series, has officially rebranded as Reburn and announced their first project under this new name: La Quimera. This upcoming first-person shooter (FPS) is set in a fictional Latin American megalopolis in the latter half of the 21st century, and it promises to deliver an intense gaming experience.
In a twist that might surprise many, it turns out that 4A Ukraine and 4A Malta have been operating as separate entities since 2014 when the latter split off from the former. This revelation comes after years of fans believing they were part of the same team. Despite sharing a name, and an engine, and even collaborating on Metro Exodus, Reburn clarified that both studios are independently owned. 4A Malta is now part of the Embracer Group and will continue to use the 4A name and trademark, while both studios retain the rights to the 4A Engine that powered the Metro games.

For those who might have missed it, this separation was publicly known, but the focus back in 2014 was more on the excitement of expansion rather than division. It’s an interesting tidbit for those of us in the gaming news world, and certainly adds a layer of complexity to the studio's history.

As for La Quimera, the announcement trailer teases an action-packed adventure filled with explosions, futuristic weaponry, and ominous corporate entities. The narrative and world-building for the game have been crafted by none other than Nicolas Winding Refn, the acclaimed director known for films like Drive and Only God Forgives. His involvement promises a unique blend of aesthetics, mixing the vibrant, sweaty atmosphere of Latin America with high-tech dystopian elements.
Players can expect to engage in both single-player and cooperative gameplay, with up to three players teaming up to take on the challenges of this richly crafted world. While the exact release date on Steam remains under wraps, Reburn assures fans of the Metro series that they can look forward to familiar elements like tense gunplay and immersive storytelling, coupled with fresh gameplay experiences.
As the excitement builds, La Quimera is set to carve out its own identity while paying homage to the legacy of its predecessor. Will it deliver on the promise of thrilling gameplay and narrative depth? Only time will tell, but if the initial trailer is any indication, Reburn is ready to make a bold statement in the gaming landscape.
