Crytek Lays Off 15% of Staff Amid Financial Struggles, Halts New Crysis Development

Crytek is facing financial challenges, leading to significant layoffs across the company. Around 15% of the workforce—60 out of 400 employees from development and related service teams—have been let go.

In light of these difficulties, the studio halted development on the next Crysis title in Q3 2024, shifting its focus to Hunt: Showdown 1896, which continues to receive active support and updates. Despite the setbacks, Crytek remains committed to enhancing its proprietary CryEngine, the technology behind the recently released Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2.

It’s still uncertain whether increased attention on Hunt: Showdown 1896 will be enough to stabilize Crytek’s financial situation. However, the decision to drop support for past-generation console versions of the game may not have been as crucial as initially thought, given the current outcome.
