New Battlefield Game: Fresh Details Emerge Ahead of Official Announcement

Following the announcement of the Battlefield Labs testing program and in anticipation of Electronic Arts' upcoming financial report, a wealth of new information has surfaced regarding the next installment of Battlefield.

Expected Release and Initial Playtests

The game is slated for release by the end of the year, as confirmed by Geoff Keighley. The first playtests will focus on individual gameplay mechanics and segments, starting in a few months on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Development Teams and Their Roles

The next Battlefield is being developed by four internal Electronic Arts studios, each responsible for different aspects of the game:

• DICE – Overseeing multiplayer infrastructure, destruction mechanics, class systems, roles, vehicles, gadgets, and more.
• Motive – Designing maps for online modes, crafting single-player missions, and producing cinematic cutscenes.
• Ripple Effect – Working on a secret project aimed at expanding Battlefield’s fanbase. Previous rumors suggested a free-to-play battle royale mode similar to Call of Duty: Warzone.
• Criterion – Assisting with the single-player campaign, temporarily pausing the development of the next Need for Speed to focus on Battlefield.

Gameplay Expectations and Features

During playtests, players will get the opportunity to experience the contributions of each studio. Notably, the Portal mode will return, but 128-player battles have been removed. Based on the revealed information, the game is shaping up to be a major franchise reboot.
