In an interview with the National Board of Review, Erivo opened up about her love for the character and her desire to bring new depth to the iconic mutant.

“I really want to play Storm,” she said. “I think we haven’t uncovered how grand she is and all of that inner turmoil she has. There’s a world where we could do something amazing with that.”

Storm, also known as Ororo Munroe, is one of the most beloved members of the X-Men, with the ability to control weather and a rich backstory that hasn’t been fully explored on screen. Halle Berry famously brought the character to life in the original Fox X-Men films, followed by Alexandra Shipp in X-Men: Apocalypse and Beyond. Now that Marvel Studios has the X-Men under its wing, fans eagerly anticipate fresh takes on these iconic characters.

Erivo is no stranger to powerful and complex roles. She recently starred as Elphaba in Wicked alongside Ariana Grande’s Glinda. The film was a smash hit, earning $164.2M in its opening weekend and snagging a Golden Globe for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement.

With Marvel Studios planning its new wave of X-Men, it’s an exciting time to think about who could step into these legendary roles. Could Erivo’s Storm bring a new layer of emotional depth to the MCU? Fans, and maybe Marvel execs, are surely paying attention.
